How Long Does Invisalign in South Burlington Take to Complete?

A woman holding a clear aligner and smiling.Orthodontics typically meant having metal brackets affixed to your teeth and an archwire threaded through it. It meant making changes to your eating and oral care habits. It meant sacrificing your appearance for an extended period of time, even though it’s for good reasons. Now, you don’t have to settle for those caveats with Invisalign in South Burlington.

But many patients have questions when it comes to Invisalign. These questions typically regard treatment time and experience. To better understand what to expect before your Invisalign treatment, you’re going to want to read this.

How Long Does Treatment Take?

Treatment time largely varies from person to person. The length of your treatment may take longer if your dental issues are particularly complex. For example, if you have significant crowding or malocclusions (i.e. overbite, underbite etc.), your treatment time can easily be longer than the average candidate.

Furthermore, the success of Invisalign is dependent on patient compliance. In order to effectively straighten teeth quickly, you’ll need to wear the aligners for at least 20 to 22 hours per day. With that in mind, it’s important that you wear the aligners for as long as possible. The longer you commit to wearing them, the sooner your treatment will be complete.

On average, Invisalign takes about 8 to 18 months to complete, but this process can be longer if you don’t wear your aligners enough.

How Does This Compare to Traditional Braces?

While aligners do help you maintain your smile’s appearance, they aren’t without their faults. For one, they aren’t recommended for individuals with severe misalignment or malocclusions that would be better suited for braces. Invisalign is still largely considered a cosmetic treatment, so some cases are too complex for their use.

However, if you do have mild to moderate levels of crowding, it makes more sense to choose a treatment that is not only more aesthetically pleasing, but faster overall. Traditional braces will take a minimum of two years to complete. For more complex cases, braces may need to be worn for three years or more.

Which Option is More Convenient?

At the end of the day, the treatment you choose will largely depend on what the dentist recommends. If they find that your issue is too complex for Invisalign, then traditional braces will be your only option. However, if the dentist determines you have a choice, you may find it more convenient to complete treatment at your own speed.

Once traditional braces are on, they stay on until your treatment is complete. Since this may not be an option all people want to choose, especially if they care about keeping their current diet or appearance, Invisalign would be considered more convenient.
